One of the lessons I've learned from my collectors is about aesthetic. There's something about colorful geometry that always pulls me in. This particular scene appealed to me for other reasons too. It's one of those tourist-barnacles full of mass-produced "collectibles", plus knock-off perfume, cartons upon cartons of cigarettes, and of course opportunistic umbrella sales because it's San Francisco. It's amazing to me that a place selling this kind of stuff could pay the rent smack in the middle of Union Square, but that speaks volumes to me about what people still value.
